Mr Jonathan Ramsay

Jonathan Ramsay has developed a large practice in male fertility for over 30 years.

Jonathan has been a Consultant Urologist at Hammersmith, Charing Cross and Chelsea & Westminster Hospitals since 1988. He works closely with the fertility units, both at Hammersmith and Chelsea, and he is also a visiting urologist to fertility clinics in Buckinghamshire, Sussex, and Central London. He has recently been awarded an Honorary Contract at Imperial College.

Mr Ramsay's research interests and recent publications include the reasons for poor quality sperm and the relationship of semen analysis, DNA quality of sperm and evidence of inflammation in the genital tract, and the relevance of the microbiome to male and female fertility.

We are particularly interested in trying to explain (and treat) unexplained infertility either to avoid IVF and ICSI or to make further cycle of treatments more successful.

Current research is involved with in-depth assessment of surgically-retrieved sperm both in cases of non-obstructive and obstructive azoospermia and vasectomy reversal. We also looked again at the effect of varicocele repair and recent research (presented at AUA 2023) confirms the importance of varicocele treatment in selected patients. Further, advanced research has Mr Ramsay working on Cell Free DNA and predicting outcomes in non-obstructive azoospermia.

Mr Ramsay is proud to have been awarded the title of Visiting Professor at Ulster University in May 2025.

The Team

This independent team works to provide a comprehensive service for men including all investigations on the site with the input of specialists in all aspects of men's health. We also work closely with nutritionists dedicated to all issues of fertility. Straightforward semen analysis is undertaken onsite with results available within an hour and advanced sperm testing is also available when needed. One of our embryologists also specialises in sperm cryopreservation and has developed a sperm donor bank. We also aim to provide ultrasound scans, usually on the same day as consultation. 

I have a great assistant, Alison, who works with me to help run everything from booking appointments to answering patient enquiries, and without whom I would be lost! We also have a team of specialists in male and couple’s fertility to ensure that each patient receives the best possible care.

I wanted to share a much more positive update with you and Dr Ramsay. Last week our 2nd daughter (and our first conceived using my sperm) was born just outside of Los Angeles. She weighed 7lbs, 9oz and is doing well.

It is with huge elation that we are thrilled to announce the birth of our baby boy, Born a couple of weeks early, weighing 3.25kg and 54cm.

We have only immense gratitude for the miracle work you each provided quite literally in enabling our dream to come true; from the synchronised cycle, twitching sperm found and thin lining, and donor sperm as backup, your continued dedication, empathy and expertise in rendering our healthy baby here today despite these challenges, is something that we will be forever grateful for, truly.

We appreciate all of the support from your teams too in the challenging journey and would be happy to provide any references as necessary of our story.

We wanted to let Mr Ramsay know that our beautiful baby daughter was born over the weekend - a little early, but mum and baby are doing well. She is truly our miracle IVF baby.

We can’t thank Mr Ramsay enough for his support, direction and expertise in playing such a vital role in making our dreams come true. From the first consultation, his calm and precise advice enabled us to navigate some difficult waters - and led us first to Steven Moser and then to Lynne Chapman and her wonderful team at LCRH.

Words can’t do justice to the role everyone has played in helping us on this journey. If the opportunity allows, we would be pleased to call into clinic and thank Mr Ramsay in person.

Hope you’re well. I just hoped you could pass some fantastic news on to Dr Ramsay, who in early 2024 diagnosed my husband’s Varicocoele and helped us with microbiome testing and a clinic referral.

We embarked on another fresh ICSI round in June which was successful! We welcomed a baby girl into the world last Tuesday. We couldn’t be more grateful for the role he played in changing our fortunes so quickly and significantly.

We have been sure to recommend you to many people! Your empathy, reassurance and pragmatic approach really made a huge difference to the way we were feeling about the whole situation. We felt like we now had a team behind us and we weren’t so alone.

My wife and I first met Mr Ramsay in 2021 after a few failed IVF cycles and not really knowing where to turn next. As well as treating me to improve our chances, Mr Ramsay also recommended Aria Fertility to us as a possible new clinic to try. 

I’m pleased to say we had an amazing experience with Aria, and whilst it took a few tries, I’m delighted to let you know that our little girl was born in August. Now 8 months old and adored by the whole family, including he doting big brother who is 12 now.

After eight years and six months of infertility and multiple failed IVF cycles, my

baby was born at 01st June 2025, and he is in good health condition, my wife is

also great.
