What is new in London?

The consulting rooms at 145 Harley Street now include Dr Anand Patel and Miss Melanie Brown.

Anand is a great addition to the team.  He has much experience in male fertility, but his USP is expertise in men’s health and in the management of men with low testosterone levels.  Anand has a clinic on a Monday morning, and Alison handles the bookings.

Melanie may already be known to many of you; she pioneered the benefits of nutrition for both men and women, and was one of the first to suggest, and then to confirm, that men and women could improve their fertility by nutritional therapies.

I hope that my friend and colleague Mr Tet Yap may also be joining us later in the year.  Tet will probably do a session each week when I am at the Beaconsfield clinic.  Tet has a very broad range of andrological skills and will bring much beyond fertility to the team.  His particular interest is very innovative and minimally invasive treatments for erectile difficulties.

What is new in Beaconsfield?

At Beaconsfield, with Claire Mooney and Fertility Solutions, we are also in expansion mode.  Claire is already doing DNA fragmentation tests on site, and we are also sending the new DNA fragmentation test (the one that measures a different type of DNA damage) to our friends in the laboratory at Examen in Belfast.  This test actually measures specific double-strand DNA breakage – it is called Extend and I think it is going to be very useful.

Who should consider the new test?

Double-strand DNA damage seems to be particularly associated with frequent, early miscarriages, often when the semen analysis and ordinary DNA fragmentation tests are normal or near-normal.  We are collaborating closely with the Examen laboratory in Belfast and we are all learning quite quickly.

What about more new services in Beaconsfield?

Because of the close association between sperm production, testosterone production and male health, we are launching an initiative in men’s health by my friend, Consultant Urologist, Jas Kalsi.  All the relevant tests will be available on site at the Beaconsfield clinic, and Jas will also use his urological expertise to ensure that our (slightly) more senior patients also have satisfactory ‘prostate health’.

So I will update the website on the development of these new initiatives, but I think it is going to be an exciting summer for all of us.
